How SwytchCode and OSCode gave students a pathway to build production-ready AI agents

AI agents can look impressive in a demo. Making them work reliably in the real world is harder.

Once an agent begins interacting with external APIs, developers must consider authentication, validation, retries, idempotency, policy controls, and audit trails. These capabilities determine whether an agent can complete tasks reliably, securely, and accountably.

SwytchCode is an AI-native development platform that helps developers build intelligent applications and AI agents using runtimes, APIs, developer tools, and integrated AI workflows.

As the AI Integration Partner for Decode SIH 2026, SwytchCode wanted students to encounter these technologies through practical development—not only through demonstrations or theoretical instruction.

Decode SIH 2026 gave SwytchCode a focused way to engage student builders through OSCode. The partnership combined SwytchCode’s AI development platform and technical expertise with OSCode’s environment for student discovery, experimentation, and building.

The Best Use of SwytchCode track set a clear standard for a complete submission. Teams were required to use the SwytchCode CLI, build with the Python or TypeScript runtime, integrate at least two external APIs from the SwytchCode ecosystem, include an AI-powered workflow or agent, and demonstrate a functional end-to-end application.

Rather than stopping at a basic prototype, students were encouraged to consider the same questions professional developers face: How should an agent authenticate with an API? What happens when a request fails? How can repeated actions be prevented? And how should agent activity be governed and audited?

SwytchCode extended its support beyond initial platform access. Best Use of SwytchCode winners at the Delhi and Bengaluru Grand Finales were offered US$1,000 in platform credits, valid for one year, along with dedicated Discord support from the SwytchCode engineering team and early access to upcoming features and releases.

Eligible members of winning teams that used SwytchCode were also offered Pre-Placement Interview opportunities. Together, the platform credits, technical guidance, product access, and potential career opportunities created a pathway for strong teams to continue learning and developing their ideas after the hackathon.

The collaboration combined developer infrastructure with a defined technical challenge and meaningful incentives to build working applications.

Through the program, SwytchCode and OSCode:

• Challenged teams to create functional AI applications using multiple external APIs.
• Connected AI experimentation with practical integration and reliability requirements.
• Offered selected winners continued platform access and direct engineering support.
• Connected eligible winning teams with potential Pre-Placement Interview opportunities.

For this early collaboration, the clearest outcome was qualitative: students encountered real developer infrastructure and were encouraged to treat reliability, integration, governance, and accountability as essential parts of building with AI.

Future programs can build on this foundation with participation tracking, project showcases, platform usage data, and follow-up feedback to measure educational and technical impact more precisely.

For SwytchCode, the partnership put an important belief into practice: students should have opportunities to work with emerging technologies while those technologies are still evolving.

For OSCode, the collaboration demonstrated how an industry partner can add practical depth to a student program. By combining platform access, clear technical requirements, engineering support, rewards, and career opportunities, the partnership gave students a genuine pathway to build—not simply learn about—production-ready AI applications.
