Exploring Open Source

The OScode DSCE Chapter invites students to a technical talk on Open Source at Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Bengaluru, on 4 September 2026. This session aims to demystify open source by explaining what it is, why it has become a cornerstone of today’s software industry, and how students can actively contribute to open-source projects.

Through interactive discussions and live demonstrations, participants will learn:

• The difference between open source and proprietary software. • The impact of open-source technologies in modern development. • How contributing enhances technical skills, portfolios, and career opportunities. • Practical guidance on using Git and GitHub for collaboration. • Best practices, common pitfalls, and beginner-friendly contribution pathways.
