The OScode DSCE Chapter invites students to a technical talk on Open Source at Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Bengaluru, on 4 September 2026. This session aims to demystify open source by explaining what it is, why it has become a cornerstone of today’s software industry, and how students can actively contribute to open-source projects.
Through interactive discussions and live demonstrations, participants will learn:
• The difference between open source and proprietary software. • The impact of open-source technologies in modern development. • How contributing enhances technical skills, portfolios, and career opportunities. • Practical guidance on using Git and GitHub for collaboration. • Best practices, common pitfalls, and beginner-friendly contribution pathways.
By the end of the session, students will gain clarity on how open-source communities function and how they can begin their journey as contributors. The talk is designed to inspire active participation, foster collaborative development skills, and help students make meaningful contributions that strengthen both their technical knowledge and professional profiles.
